Looks awesome TomTom,

How big is the tank and what sort of filter do you need to maintain such a set up?

Hi Chris,
yes the skimmer was an issue for me at the beginning. technically couple of times a day i was adjusting it.
I actually did something very unlike me - after having the RSM for 3 months, i looked through the manual again. and what i discovered - the shutter for the overflow position.

The guy in the shop said to me ( he was running the same setup) to open the shutter fully - down to the very bottom. i was running the tank this way and all the time had temp. issues - chiller ws going off all the time. When i took the manual in my hand again - i discovered that they suggest to keep the shutter of the overflow up to the very top or slightly down ( around 1-2 inch.) I did so. Make sure that the level of water in the filter chambers is at least half way through. They suggested - from what i remember - when you are running a chiller - 3 lines from the top.

Technically after doing that - not only the temp was getting better and the chiller was not going off all the time; i opened the valve of the skimmer to full and it was producing nice foam and it was not overflowing. When the level of water goes down a bit - the skimmer still produces foam - but it is much dryer. so win win situation here. try it - it may work for you as well.

Let me know how you go.

Hope that help.

Good luck mate

Hi mate,

thanks for the comments.

This tank is the Red Sea MAx 250 - 250L, the filter is at the back of the tank with skimmers and the chiller connection. It is very tidy unit. no mess with cables and stuff :)

Check it out on the www.redseafish.com.

Cheers mate
