I have never had fish before, but my husband did when he lived in England. I am having problems with our 2 female Guppys sadly one died the day before yesterday and I am trying very hard to keep our 2nd girl named Lemon alive. We thought that both of them were pregnant and put them in a breeding net thing, but no babies yet, but sadly I thought they were in there for too long and got them put back into the main tank, when I noticed the next day that Freda was no where to be seen, when we finally found here she was lying in the bottom of the tank, but still alive. We put them both back in the hatchery, but sadly she died. Lemon was also having big problems, and she seem not to be able to stay upright. I remembered the guy at our pet store in Gympie stating that to put Epsom salts in the water as they liked it and it keeps them clear. I have started by putting small amounts in the water and she does seem to be staying upright, but I don't think that Lemon is out of the woods yet, she still seems to be pretty bloated or pregnant but I don't know which. She seems to have started to poo bit by bit now. My husband says that I worry too much, and now I really don't know if I am doing the right thing or not.
So far I have lost 1 male and 1 female guppy and I lost after a week and a half a Black Ghost Knife who was named BG who I totally fell in love with, and totally cried my eyes out over, I even got my husband to bury him.
Yea sorry I give all of the fish names except the Neon and Cardinal Tetra names as there is too many of them and I cannot tell them apart.
I have told my husband that from what I have read that we should do some water changes and he says no, as he kept fish for years in England and never had problems, he said that as we have a good filter, good pump, plants, and he doesn't over feed them that all should be ok.
So I am totally lost as I don't want to annoy him too much, as he says he is more the expert than me, as I hadn't ever had anything to do with fish. I am 53 and this is the 1st time as a fishy girl mum. Also I thought that it might be a bacterial thing as well.
Hope someone out there can give me some good advice.

Keeps them clear of what I wonder...
Well I am not sure but it sounds a bit like bloat. Or it could be a dozen other things including poor water quality or even just feeding them too much.
Unless your tank is planted heavily I really do not see how you can possibly go for long without changing the water- how long has it been?
Also did one of you treat the water for chlorines and chloramines at any time? I am not sure if the UK has chlorine or chloramine treated water (I suspect they do have at least chlorine added) but here in Australia we treat the water generally with both chemicals in different parts of Australia, with chloramines being the most popular owing to the fact that heat does not affect it (unlike chlorine which is dissipated by heat or even just letting the water sit for a while). Chloramine is a compound that will kill your fish fairly fast and definitely needs to be removed via a complete water treatment product.
Having good filters is good and having plants is good but not changing water is bad unless you are adding something that eats up all the nitrogen, and fish produce lots of waste which turns into ammonia, then nitrites then nitrates.
Epsom Salts can be used for various things, mainly buffering water by raising the general hardness (GH), treating Dropsy and kidney damage, Pop-Eye and numerous other maladies. It is even used to provide cichlids (along with rock salt) with better water for them to live in but it is not a cure-all.
